The question that seems to be on everyone’s lips, well not really, but in some circles. Is he a Muslim?  At one point it was a question, now the “Right” exclaims he is a Muslim. By now you now of whom I speak , our 44th President, Barrack Hussein Obama.

Here is a guy that had to denounce his friendship with Rev. Wright to appease the electorate. Even his wife was ripe for the picking, especially when she mentioned “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction.” The “Right” came after her about her time at Princeton and the groups she affiliated herself with. They didn’t take into consideration the climate of the time period. They didn’t even consider the percentage of blacks on campus at the time.

President  Obama often gets attacked in the realm of race. He’s accused of focusing too much time and resources on brown people. Remember this quote from Glenn Beck “President Barack Obama has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture.” A very odd statement to say the least; isn’t Obama’s mother Caucasian? Remember Beer-Gate? The incident that occurred between his friend Prof. Henry Gates and a white police officer in Cambridge, MA; when the President rushed to the aid of his friend, he was criticized. Then there was the Shirley Sherrod incident, he chimed in a bit too soon to denounce her to appease, once again, the “Right” and he stepped in an unsavory substance.

The President happens to be black or to some, a person of color. Many people I know and pal around with happen to be white, make the same statement “I don’t have a problem voting for a person that is black for president, just not this guy”. Why is everything about race? I’m not an apologist for the President, if I had to grade him on performance, I would give him a C-.

In the latest poll 1 in 5 Americans think he’s a Muslim, secondly 31% of Republicans believe he is a Muslim. To further that point, you bring in a non-scholar preacher to give it more credibility; Franklin Graham the son of Billy Graham.  I have no respect for Billy, who used his influence to help tawdry and crooked Presidents but never helped his fellow brethren, Martin Luther King, during his plight and we wonder why Sunday is the most segregated day of the week. The church or rightfully ecclesia should stay out of politics, hence the 1st Amendment.

The Rev. Franklin Graham, said last week that President Obama’s problem was that he “was born a Muslim.” According to Graham, “The seed is passed through the father. He was born a Muslim. His father was a Muslim; the seed of Muslim is passed through the father like the seed of Judaism is passed through the mother. He was born a Muslim. His father gave him an Islamic name.”

Whatever your religious affiliation is, are you assigned to it for the rest of your life? Is Graham saying we don’t have the freedom to choose what path we would like to follow. If that is fact, stop preaching today, stop out reach programs, you are wasting your time.

President Obama did not have a relationship with his father, he wasn’t raised by him in the ways of Islam. As he got older he had the right to study and see what path fit his belief system; didn’t you rebel Franklin? Any young person is influenced by society and culture of the time. If he says today he is Christian and denounces Islam once being a Muslim, that makes him an infidel.

Lastly Kim Lehman, Republican National Committee woman from Iowa  tweeted last week that Obama “personally told the Muslims that he IS a Muslim. Read his lips.” Lehman refused to walk back the statement, telling the Des Moines Register: “[This] isn’t about me. Call the President… Say ‘are you a Christian or not?’… If I’m wrong, I’m more than happy to say, ‘Oh I’m wrong.'” I can’t even comment on this, well I can say “keep religion out of politics, it doesn’t make for good bedfellows”.

Glenn Beck, whom in the past, has made scathing comments about the President held a huge “Restoring Honor Rally”, says he wants the country to get back on track, back to its roots. I’m lost on this because of one issue; Christian history. The Bible isn’t a Christian book, to whom was the Messiah sent? Second, we don’t have a state religion, the founding fathers stayed out of this very issue. We can always find information to shape and form opinion as more authoritative but truth shines more honestly. Third, this is not a province of qualification for the office(of president), if it is our country should have burned a long time ago.

It is true that we must find our way as a country again, that statement alone has huge implications. It begins with the inner man. It’s okay to have different belief systems, that’s what makes our country great. No one man/woman has the answers, especially the one party with two heads. I don’t think we’re ready to be honest about our past history. When we are then and only then can we become great; again.
