You MUST man-up and fight against an extension of the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy. I’m already hearing a weariness in your voice. Recently on 60 Minutes you said, “I think we’re gonna have to have a serious conversation about it. Here’s an example where I’d like to think we could at least settle on those things we agree on.” Ya think? The Republicans, fresh off their mid-term victory, really could care less about agreeing with you. Your top political advisor, David Axelrod sounded as weary as you on Meet the Press, saying the American people are counting on us to get the tax cuts done. Oh really? No, the American people are counting on you to be fair and giving the rich more money than they already have is not fair. Did you know that the very rich use to take in less than 9 percent of the pre-tax income in 1976 but now they take in almost 24 percent. Should the teacher, librarian(me), store clerk, etc., really have a higher tax rate than someone on the Forbes Riches Americans List?
I say NO and please(Republicans) don’t trot out the talking point that some of those top earners are small business owners and not renewing the tax cuts means they can’t hire more people, and the one thing the economy needs is jobs. It’s just not true! PolitiFact.com found that only about 2 percent of them would see tax increases if the government increased the rates on the top earners. So President Obama you must be strong and fight(and don’t forget you have veto power). It’s time to let the Bush-era tax cuts expire for the top earners and get what really drives the economy going again: the middle-class.
