Some of the Democrats are singing it. They say it’s one of the reasons why they will withhold their support on the compromise that President Obama has made with the Republicans on the two-year extension of the Bush-era tax cuts. REALLY DEMOCRATS? You are worried about a tax that, at present, only affects the wealthiest
2 percent of all Americans.
The Estate Tax is a tax on your right to transfer property at your death. It consists of an accounting of everything you own or have certain interests in at the date of your death. Currently because of the Bush-era tax cuts there is no estate tax but that too would end with the expiration of the Bush tax cuts. It would jump to over 50 percent at the end of the year on estates above $650,000, Democrats wanted a threshold of $3.5 million, and a rate of 45 percent but the President and his staff negotiated a rate of 35 percent, on estates worth more than $5 million. Democrats, I know you want to stick it to the rich and get a higher rate but most Americans really don’t give a darn about your stance on the Estate Tax at this moment . We do care, though, that you’ll hold up an extension of unemployment benefits just days before Christmas
I’m a die-hard Democrat but over the past several months the “party of the people”, as I like to call them, have been too timid. During all the uproar last week, Rep. Anthony Weiner(D-NY) spoke to his perception of the lack of leadership from President Obama saying the President needs to lead the country and the party and stop compromising so easily. Several other Democrats voiced their displeasure with the President as well.
Well Weiner, leadership is a two-way street and many of your Democratic colleagues have not held up their end of the bargain. Admittedly the President kind of wasted the summer in stomping against an extension of the Bush-era tax cuts to the wealthiest 2 percent but by September and well before the midterms he was clear in his opposition to unaffordable tax breaks for the wealthy. He said this in speech after the speech(sounds like leadership to me) but Democrats in both houses of Congress wouldn’t even call for talks or a vote on the tax-cuts fearing what it would do to their incumbents. The rest, as they say, is history. Scores of Democrats lost, Republicans regained control of the House and the upper-hand in bargaining and here we are with John “crying all the time” Boehner getting just what he wanted; an extension of the tax cuts. So now it’s time for you to support your leader(President Obama) and the compromise that he had to make in no small way because you’ll didn’t want to rock the boat before midterms. Enough Already!
