It’s official, I want to kick Rick Santorum in his shin. He’s a fake and a phony and quite possibly a homophobe. Oh and he may be partially deaf. At the last debate Republican Presidential Debate in Orlando, Santorum took a question via video from Stephen Hill, a gay soldier serving in Iraq. Hill was able to openly state that he was gay due to repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” but his brave coming out moment was met with boos from some boorish audience members and deafening silence from all of those on the debate panel. You know those freedom loving, rhetoric hurling, flag-pin wearing, patriotic Republicans.

Before you even think it I (Libergirl) would criticize Democrats if they did the same thing. But back to that deafening silence, to be fair the question was addressed to Santorum so he should have dived in first to criticize the boos.

Santorum addressed the soldier’s question with his thoughts on how repealing DADT was social experimentation and that really sex should not be in the military; either homosexual or heterosexual. On his first days as President(which he shall never be) he would roll things back to the way they were pre repeal of DADT.  Just another example of straight people obsessing over gay people. His answer assumed that now that they are free to NOT hide their sexual orientation they will be rampant and uncontrollable sex among the troops. His disgust while not shown on his face was fully revealed in his answer. This is what kills me about his type ; his hypocrisy stemming from so-called family values. He later condemned the boos and said, “Certainly had I heard them, I would have said, ‘Don’t do that. This man is serving our country, and we are to thank him for his service.’ ”  Well said albeit late but it’s better than never. Things are bad when the party of  good old American patriotism boos a gay service member.  Forget the economy and unemployment, we’ve got a much deeper problem when we disrespect anyone just because they want to be free to be who they are. I bet those who booed wouldn’t do that to Hill’s face, did you get a look at the muscles on that guy?  Here’s an idea for those who crude audience members; volunteer your time and talents to fight for your country or just shut your mouth.
