Is Herman Cain really running for president or is he this election cycle’s Mike Huckabee with the goal being a television show and future book deals? I’m having a hard time taking the “Godfather” serious, he’s like the uncle at the family reunion; you love him but you cringe when he starts to talk. You just hope he doesn’t sing or crack jokes or dance.
But Cain does just what you don’t want your uncle to do and add in a hearty helping of talking out of both sides of his mouth he comes off as, well, kinda stupid. You can’t apologize for your electric fence joke and then in almost the same breath walk it back: Hey, I just might have to electrocute a few brown people coming in here illegally. Really? Seriously? Are you really that tone-deaf? Does Cain realize that in this world of YouTube and Facebook that what you say will make the news even if you said it in jest at the local mom and pop diner in Iowa where you were chatting up voters?
Take for instance his new bizarre campaign ad featuring his chief of staff, David Block talking about taking our country back and how he can’t wait for Herman to president of these United States. The music fades in as David lights a cigarette and is amped up to a slowly smiling Herman Cain. What exactly is the point of him lighting up a cigarette? Is it wink to the good old days when the Marlboro Man promoted cigarettes as cool in spite of the fact that they could kill you? Did it have anything to do with Cain’s days as CEO of the National Restaurant Association(NRA) where he worked with R.J. Reynolds tobacco lobbyists in their effort to crush local, state, and federal efforts to regulate smoking in restaurants and other places of public concern. Pundits and comedians had a field day with the video substituting in everything from spaghetti to whiskey for the cigarettes. Is this the ad of a serious presidential candidate and if so, what the hell?
More troubling than his cozy relationship with lobbyists was how as CEO of NRA he fought against the minimum wage in the 90s and succeeded in exempting servers from being included in the 1996 minimum wage law. Is this the same Herman Cain that made the pizzas, cleaned the bathrooms and swept the parking lot? Hmm…he must have done all this work on “Visit From CEO Day” at the companies he was running because anyone really doing this work would be the last to fight the minimum wage.
This is what I mean about Cain being a joke, what are the true intentions of his presidential run? At the rate he’s going Cain is going to implode all on his own.

You know, I’ve been thinking the same thing. I keep saying to myself, “He can’t be serious. He can’t expect to win the way he’s going about this.” It’s almost the intention is to gain something else. He seems to think so little of The People. and comes off more successfully as a parody for Saturday Night Live.
Hmmm…He can’t be serious….Can’t be.
