Depending on where you live, GAS is too DAMN high. Gas is inching its way up to $4 dollars a gallon, some say it will be $5 dollars by the summer. Before I ask this question, by all means, do not become an alarmist, is $5 dollars too low of an amount that what we pay at the pump? Stop jumping up and down and saying I’ve lost my rational mind. Why is it that gas is so high everywhere else compared to the Middle East and who else, you guessed it, the United States?  There are other countries that will make you jealous. The numbers haven’t changed much since I lived in Germany, everyone else is still very high, depending on the country, continent etc. You can find charts to back this up easily, simply look at the bottom of this post.

First I will say, gas prices are political. Newt is going around posing in front of gas tanks, while local upstarts that are running for Congress are smearing the President saying it’s his fault, same as Newt. Gas was $1.85 when Obama took office but many factors including the European debt crisis, the Iranian President threatening to cork the oil and market speculators(as happen almost every year) have driven up the prices.

Newt can’t do anything about the price of gas so citizens stop being used as props to further his idiocy. Gas is a dirty business and will continue to be so. Too many hands in the pot and each hand wants something. We can’t drill to fix our problems either, it would take decades to eradicate our insatiable appetite. Too many factors go into pricing: taxes, profits  margins, distribution and marketing, OPEC and even more . NO President can win this battle, it’s what goes on behind closed doors that is the real truth. Ask yourself why is the military deployed to protect oil reserves in some of the most remotest of places?

As Americans we have become spoiled and until we start to look at the truth of gas prices( a difficult and laborious subject) we may as well get ready for the continued gas ping- pong. President Carter had it right, but was so maligned for it, turn temps.down/up in both seasons, it helps, even if you may be a little uncomfortable. Did you know in the oval office he had solar paneling but when Reagan won he immediately had it removed?

Lastly Obama and Biden are making their arguments for the auto bailouts and they should. The President made a decision which put him between a rock and a hard place but he stuck to his guns and it worked out. He put America first, while the others were ready to throw it asunder. Government shouldn’t be in the auto business, but when they couldn’t run it correctly…YES, the government is inefficient but that’s due to too many hands in the greedy pot. As for gas, American trucks are the biggest sellers just look at the miles per gallon(MPG) they are receiving. To speak even more to the problem, the U.S. makes vehicles in other countries much more fuel efficient. NOTE: Gas should not be subsidized either, it doesn’t pan out in the long run.
