When we speak of (the) media, it is probably the single most powerful entity that we have. It steers us in how it wants us to look at or react to certain situations. American media has a way of creating warring factions, it has been doing this for quite some time. Let’s look at a current case: The shooting death of unarmed teenager,18-year-old Michael Brown. As concerned as I am, I would like to wait until I have all the evidence before making an informed decision. Both sides Left/Right do it; they jump the gun(one side more than the other). Case in point, when we first see pictures of Brown he is pubescent with a charming smile but other pictures show a hulking 6’4 man terrorizing a pint-sized man. We also see another picture of a young BOY, which he was, posing with a gun, a mouth full of money with a Fifth and orange Hi-C in the pic. No one mentioned, it is a photo of a murder defendant from Oregon. The picture was posted on Facebook by Marc Catron a Kansas city Officer, who is now under internal review.
Video tape is floating around which is the shorter version of the so-called robbery by Brown. In the longer version it shows Michael Brown purchasing the product. The odd thing is, why wasn’t a burglary report called in. I can excuse that with small convenience stores, that’s probably a recurring event.
We have to be careful listening to what the media puts out, I can say this since I’m from alternative media. As I said, their job is to spread dissent. Noam Chomsky’s great work, Media Control: The Spectacular Achievements of Propaganda speaks about media control. Here are some quotes from this must read:
“One conception of democracy has it that a democratic society is one in which the public has the means to participate in some meaningful way in the management of their own affairs and the means of information are open and free. An alternative conception of democracy is that the public must be barred from managing of their own affairs and the means of information must be kept narrowly and rigidly controlled”.
“The United States pioneered the public relations industry. Its commitment was “to control the public mind,” as its leaders put it”. Public relation is a huge industry. They’re spending by now something on the order of a billion dollars a year. All along its commitment was to controlling the public mind”.
This book is indispensable on how media propaganda works.
I can speak on this subject with much brevity but all that matters is what you think. We as blacks and citizens must realize it is not the police’s job to protect us. We can point to numerous cases of this.
The Brown situation is not an incident that just occurred, it’s a culmination of many factors. The shooting of a kid holding a BB gun, the choking incident in NY and more , all within months. What about Jordan Davis being killed for playing loud music, as well as Trayvon Martin. This is senseless murders of young black males.
Who cares what the O’Reillys and Hannitys have to say. Especially with the “were you there” stuff! Please stop acting as if you have the facts. Your programs are all opinion based especially you Sean, with your optical argument about Officer Darren Wilson being off balance due to impaired vision being the reason Brown was shot in his arm. Truth is Brown’s autopsy doesn’t show that type of damage. We need real investigative journalists to bring out the real story. Support alternative outlets. Stay strong Ferguson, forget the detractors who people are focusing on.
Lastly, use your power of the voting process and get rid of these politicians that are not for you #recall4mike. It can happen and should. Forget the praying, the churches haven’t done nothing, not a mumbling word. Forget the marching and praying, nothing comes about except by action.
Stop being reactive, it’s time to be proactive. The opposition against Michael Brown and the black struggle have raised over $1 million. A recent Google search showed two crowd funding resources for the officer . C’mon black folks put you money where your mouth is and DONATE.
If nothing comes out of the incident in Ferguson, the bark is much stronger than the bite. This is the time for action, you have the networks and the world’s ear. If nothing comes out of this, it will be a complete fail.
