Throughout this article at various times I use “Somalia” to mean the historic region, the Federal Government of Somalia in Mogadishu, and the internationally recognized territory. My meaning should always be clear from context. This carries no political intention and I [obviously] understand that the Republic of Somaliland government does not consider Somaliland to be part of Somalia. Further, though the proper denonym is generally “Somali,” for the purpose of clarity I will be using “Somalian” to mean “citizen of the Federal Republic of Somalia” and “Somali” to mean the ethnic group.
