Millions of families living in federally subsidized public housing would pay more for rent under a proposal unveiled Wednesday by Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson.

The proposal would have to be approved by Congress, where it could touch off a debate over how best to support some of the country’s poorest and most vulnerable families. Democrats will likely put up fierce resistance and some members of the Republican majority will be reluctant to embrace it ahead of midterm elections in the fall.

Brain surgery is no match for running HUD, a frustrated Carson says

Before Ben Carson accepted President Donald Trump’s offer to become secretary of housing and urban development, a friend implored him to turn down the job to preserve the reputation he had earned as a brilliant neurosurgeon and lost, in part, as a politician.

The confidant, Logan Delany Jr., who was the treasurer of Carson’s 2016 presidential campaign, described HUD as a “swamp” of “corruption.” He predicted in an email that Carson’s “lack of a background in housing” would make him prey to the department’s career staff and political appointees, as well as predatory lobbyists.

To drive home the point, Delany appended a link toan obituary of Samuel R. Pierce Jr., the Reagan-era HUD secretary whose reputation as a trailblazing black corporate lawyer was tarnished by accusations that he steered contracts to Republican cronies.

Carson’s efforts to steer the agency toward programs that foster self-sufficiency, one of his stated goals, have been undermined by staffing mistakes, his indecisiveness and a president indifferent, at best, to the department’s mission of helping the poor, according to two dozen current and former HUD and administration officials

“I mean, [our society is] very much like Nazi Germany,” Carson told Breitbart News, after declaring that we were living in a “Gestapo age.” “And I know you’re not supposed to say ‘Nazi Germany,’ but I don’t care about political correctness. You know, you had a government using its tools to intimidate the population. We now live in a society where people are afraid to say what they actually believe.”

Carson listed multiple aspects of America that he believes intimidates people into silence.

“And it’s because of the PC police, it’s because of politicians, it’s because of news. It’s all of these things are combining to stifle people’s conversation,” he said. “The reason that is so horrible is because the only way that you have harmony and reach consensus is by talking. But if, in fact, people are afraid to talk, you never reach consensus. And instead you grow further and further apart. And that’s exactly what’s happening, creating a horrible schism that will destroy our nation if we don’t fix it.”

Ben Carson Steps Down as Johns Hopkins Graduation Speaker After Gay Marriage Firestorm

Carson needs to stop! He’s being used as the “I have a black friend who’s smarter than your black friend”. He’s to smart to allow himself  to get caught up in this silliness. Another thought. Why do men run for President(not saying he’s running, wink)instead of running for an office that is more attainable. I don’t care how smart/intelligent he is. He was a surgeon, those are huge shoes to step into as President.

Famed Johns Hopkins pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson has withdrawn as this year’s graduation speaker for the university, giving in to student demands after controversial remarks he made about gay marriage last month.
“Given all the national media surrounding my statements as to my belief in traditional marriage, I believe it would be in the best interests of the students for me to voluntarily withdraw as your commencement speaker this year,” Carson said in an email to Hopkins medical school dean Paul Rothman, according to the Washington Post. “My presence is likely to distract from the true celebratory nature of the day. Commencement is about the students and their successes, and it is not about me.”
Carson, who has been a steady media presence since his headline-making National Prayer Breakfast speech in February, sparked controversy after he seemed to compare gay relationships with bestiality and pedophilia during a TV interview two weeks ago.

“Marriage is between a man and a woman,” Carson said on Fox News’ “Hannity.” “It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality — it doesn’t matter what they are, they don’t get to change the definition.”
Following his remarks, Hopkins students took up a petition for a new speaker, calling his views, “incongruous with the values of Johns Hopkins and deeply offensive to a large proportion our student body.”
Carson offered an apology on TV several days later, saying he “never had any intention of offending anyone.” He apologized again last week in an email to the whole Johns Hopkins community, writing that his “poorly chosen words caused pain for some members of our community and for that I offer a most sincere and heartfelt apology.”
Carson’s second apology came the same day Rothman issued a statement calling Carson’s comments “inconsistent with the culture of our institution” and saying he would meet with students who wanted him out as graduation speaker.
