Newly Revealed Paid Speeches Leave ‘No Question Whatsoever’ That Republican Ron DeSantis Is a Racist

New reports of recent speeches at an annual conference held by a right-wing extremist who has espoused white supremacist and Islamophobic views provide the latest evidence that Florida’s Republican gubernatorial nominee, Rep. Ron DeSantis, has supported racist groups and associated with their viewpoints in the recent past.

The congressman, who announced Monday he was resigning from his seat to campaign full time against Democrat Andrew Gillum—the Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.)-backed, African American mayor of Tallahassee—spoke four times in the last five years at the annual conferences of the David Horowitz Freedom Center.

The group’s namesake and leader is the author of a book entitled “Black Skin Privilege and the American Dream,” which promotes the notion that white Americans are the victims of a race war. He also wrote on Twitter just last month that “Black Africans enslaved black Africans” while “America freed them sacrificing 350,000 mainly white Union lives.”

The End Really Is Near: Here’s a Play-By-Play of the Coming Economic Collapse as Predicted by 5 Economists

Recoveries generally don’t die of old age. So what’s going to kill ours? Five economists call it like they see it Since June, 2009, the pit of one of the biggest recessions in American history, the U.S. economy has been growing, slowly but steadily. That’s just over nine years of uninterrupted growth.

Since June, 2009, the pit of one of the biggest recessions in American history, the U.S. economy has been growing, slowly but steadily. That’s just over nine years of uninterrupted growth. If the good times roll for another year — and most economists expect they will — this expansionary period will go down as the longest ever in American history, surpassing the 120-month-long period during the ‘90s tech boom. But don’t be so quick to pop bubbly and send the confetti raining down. There’s precedence for unprecedented growth: It always ends. The economy, of course, moves in cycles.

And no matter how you slice it, it would seem there’s only so much more climbing before a fall. But what will set off a downturn? How bad will it be? And when will it actually happen? To answer these questions and more, Salon consulted with five economists, three of whom (Peter Schiff, Steve Keen and Dean Baker) predicted the 2008 financial crisis before it hit.

Dems Are Once Again Poised to Fumble Away a Must Win Election

Jeff Merkley

If the Democrats want to win control of the House in the fall, they need to have a plan, a positive vision, and a focus on issues that directly affect Americans. Not surprisingly, they are failing on all fronts.

I cover US politics for a living and, with less than five months to go before the crucial midterm election that will determine whether American voters will impose some checks on President Donald Trump, I couldn’t tell you what the Democrats’ platform is… or their plan for winning this November.

Instead of coming up with policies that will change the lives of Americans in a meaningful way — as well as a strategy of telling voters about them — they keep getting sucked into the Trump trap.

The president will do or say something that is so ridiculous or reprehensible that Democrats are sure that, this time, the public will surely realize that he is a know-nothing liar and demagogue who is destroying the US from within.

PBS to Launch Conservative Talk Show Focused on ‘Serious, Civil Dialogue

In the latest move by a mainstream news outlet to add conservative voices to their team, PBS has brought-on Washington Post columnist Michael Gerson and right-wing pundit Amy Holmes to host a new William F. Buckley’s Firing Line-esque talk show.

In Principle will began April 13, 2018 and will air every Friday night for eight weeks. Depending on the show’s reception, it may continue after the two month run.

Gerson acted as George W. Bush’s speech writer from 2001-2005 and was responsible for crafting much of the misleading information regarding the Iraq War for the consumption of the American public.

While Gerson has frequently spoken-out against Donald Trump’s administration, he is known for his immoderate neoconservative views and has staunchly advocated for nation building in attempts to spread democracy to third-world countries.

CDC Denies Banning Words; Rights Group Projects Disputed Terms Onto Trump D.C. Hotel

The Human Rights Campaign, working with artist Robin Bell, projected words like “fetus” and “transgender” onto the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday night, to protest the words being included on a “forbidden” list circulating at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A Washington Post report says staff were instructed not to use the words in budgetary documents.

The Department of Health and Human Services, which includes the CDC, has denied the report, calling it a “complete mischaracterization” of conversations about the annual budget. The CDC says that the words are not banned and that the organization remains “committed to our public health mission as a science-and evidence-based institution.”

According to the Post, high-level officials at the CDC were told not to use seven words — diversity, entitlement, evidence-based, fetus, science-based, transgender and vulnerable — while writing documents connected to next year’s budget.
