“So disgraceful that a person illegally in our country killed @Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson,” he tweeted. “This is just one of many such preventable tragedies. We must get the Dems to get tough on the Border, and with illegal immigration, FAST!”

Prior to the president’s tweets, however, Chad Bouchez, Jackson’s roommate, said during a CBS interview, that Jackson would not want his death politicized. “He would not want that,” Bouchez said. “I don’t think Edwin would have judged anyone on where they were from or anything else. ”

The man accused of hitting Jackson and his Uber driver with his vehicle in Indianapolis on Sunday had been deported twice, according to Indiana State Police. Manuel Orrego-Savala, 37, might have entered the U.S. on or around July 1, 2004, according to an email Monday from Nicole Alberico, a spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. According to CNN, an ICE statement said the accused also has other “misdemeanor criminal convictions and arrests in California and Indiana.

Shut up and play ball: Why America can’t handle black athletes who talk about race

Image: Raw Story

Sometime far in the future, Colin Kaepernick’s  decision to sit during the playing of the national anthem will be heralded as another example of a black athlete using his or her national platform to draw attention to the continued mistreatment of black people in the United States. Undoubtedly, former teammates, coaches, and journalists will step forward to present their memories — seen through lenses covered in vaseline so that the edges are softened and the ugly stuff excised — in which they will extol Kaepernick for his courage and for his willingness to do the right thing even though he had to know that his act would be deliberately misinterpreted by those whose kneejerk reaction to any critique of the United States is to invoke the bodies of American war dead.

It’s especially ironic that the military is used to somehow prove that Kaepernick is wrong for speaking up when African Americans serve their country in the military at a higher rate — 17.8% — than its proportion of the U.S. population — 13.3% — than do white people, whose proportion of the population is 77.1% but who are only represented in the military at a rate of 74.6%.

2016 starts very badly for Carly Fiorina and Ben Carson

Stanford alum Fiorina kicked off the new year with a tweet that may well appear on worst-of lists at the end of the year:

Kenny Smith’s open letter to Charles Barkley about Ferguson

Dear Media,
Please stop asking Charles his opinion on race relations.

Editor’s Note: NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley’s comments about recent events in Ferguson, Mo. have prompted a strong reaction from many, including Kenny Smith, his friend and fellow analyst on TNT’s “Inside the NBA.”

Smith addressed Barkley’s remarks in an open letter submitted exclusively to For The Win. The letter is featured below in its entirety:

Dear Chuck,

I hope this finds you in the way I always see you, in great spirits, with great joy and full of life. There are some things I want to openly say to you that sometimes in conversation get lost.

Firstly I lied!  You ARE the greatest Power Forward of all time. It’s not (Tim) Duncan or (Karl) Malone, they had size and height that you weren’t blessed with and you never had near the talent around you that they were blessed to have. Contrarily you took your…

LeBron James going home, to sign with Cleveland Cavaliers

This is almost as exciting as when he announced he was taking his talents to South Beach sans the glass of wine I was drinking and before we clipped the cable cords…  I know…too much information!

OH…..Dear NON-Conformist, try not to hate too much…

Thomas Wolfe was wrong, at least about LeBron James. You can go home again.

LeBron James is heading back to the Cleveland Cavaliers, and he announced the decision on his own terms.

LeBron, via Lee Jenkins of Sports Illustrated:

I always believed that I’d return to Cleveland and finish my career there. I just didn’t know when. After the season, free agency wasn’t even a thought. But I have two boys and my wife, Savannah, is pregnant with a girl. I started thinking about what it would be like to raise my family in my hometown. I looked at other teams, but I wasn’t going to leave Miami for anywhere except Cleveland. The more time passed, the more it felt right. This is what makes me happy.

Wow. Wow. Wow.

For a long time, many didn’t believe the Cavs had a serious chance to lure LeBron back, but they…

Fox News’ Allen West Somehow Finds Way To Bring Benghazi Into Donald Sterling Situation

Image: islamophobiatoday.com

By now, everyone has made some kind of statement of comment about soon-to-be former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling’s lifetime suspension from the NBA. Generally, people within the league and around the country feel that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made the right and just decision to ban Sterling from the sport due to his racist comments. Of course, we’ve had some conservatives who now feel that Sterling was setup by his former mistress and Magic Johnson to pave the way for Magic to buy the Clippers. While the Sterling ‘trutherism’ is pretty far out there, former Republican Congressman and now right-wing pundit Allen West decided to go even further down the rabbit hole on Wednesday. On his personal website, West wrote a blog post where he somehow found a way to shoehorn Benghazi and hatred for Obama into a discussion about Donald Sterling’s racism. West said that we know more about Sterling’s racism than we know about what happened in Benghazi or with the IRS. He also wanted to know why there wasn’t more outrage over Kerry’s apartheid comments.

Where is the cultural, public outrage over a behind closed door comment such as referring to the State of Israel as an “apartheid state?” Probably most of America doesn’t know who said it or even what “aparteid” means. Or how about the outrage that should have come when our own president leaned over to then-Russian President Medvedev sayng, “Tell Putin that after my reelection I will have more flexibility” and of course Medvedev said, “I will tell Vladimir.” And now we know what that “flexibility” has allowed.
