Recently while watching one of my favorite morning shows, C-Span, there were two disgruntled callers and they had a lot to say about Republican National Commitee (RNC) Chair Michael Steele. Were these the sentiments of America, the “Right”, the Tea Party?  Let’s dissect what was said. The first caller was from Maryland and black, he reminded me of Uncle Ruckus from the Boondocks.

First, I’m not coming to the defense of Michael Steele, well I guess I am a little. It’s hard for me to, though, after the article I wrote. As a person Mr. Steele is conflicted, a walking pun. It’s one reason why his sound bites are used against him. Secondly, not to belabor the point but we know why he was elected. Thirdly, the “Right” thought he would just be a figure-head; a person without a mouth. Well that proved to be wrong as well as reckless. Mr. Steele came out on more than a few times denouncing wrongful practices within his party. To that his party blasted back misappropriation of funds, his inability to raise money and the current debt they face. Steele again surprises them when he says he wants to be reelected. My issue is more personal; learn to let go. If everytime you feed a hog and you kick it in the head, sooner or later it knows better than to go back . I just don’t believe Mr. Steele understands this but let’s get back to the C-Span callers.

MARYLAND CALLER: You’re not going to like what I have to say so you can put your finger on the dump button… I don’t want Steele to be chairman of the Republican National Committee because he’s black. I think we have bent over backwards to accommodate blacks in this country with the affirmative action stuff that’s gone on now for sixty years here. And it’s time we ended it. And as a black person I think he’s inhibited to come out and condemn some of these Black Panthers like creep up in Philadelphia who said they should start killing white children. And I’ve never heard a single word from Michael Steele condemning this guy…Diversity is terrible for any country. It’s destroying this country and it will destroy any country.

1. Don’t want him as chair because he’s black-This is an odd statement since the caller is black.

2. We have bent over backward with the affirmative action stuff, it’s time we ended it. First, who is we? What have you done personally? People speak freely but are misinformed, the U.S. Department of Labor found that white woman are the primary beneficiaries of Affirmative Action. Blacks are NOT the sole or primary beneficiaries of Affirmative Action. Many other races have benefited even more, e.g., women, Native Americans, Arab Americans, Latinos and Asian Americans.

3. Speaks of him not condemning the Black Panther stuff–groups are allowed to be formed and practice whatever ilk they please. We don’t know if he did or did not speak out.

4. Diversity is terrible for any country. It’s destroying this country and it will destroy our country–diversity is good for every country, continent, etc. Look back in the not- so- distant past and see what not having diversity caused  America. You need perspectives of all people, no one person of a certain race can be the voice for every race. We all have differences of opinion.

ALABAMA CALLER: Yeah I agree with the previous caller a couple of calls ago about why they wouldn’t support Mr. Steele because he was black. I don’t have anything against black people, but I noticed after he took over all the letters that I kept getting from the Republican Committee wanting me to donate my money they were wanting to keep supporting these RINOs(Republicans In Name Only), what we call Republicans who really should be in the Democratic party…And as far as getting the black vote for the Republican party, it’s never going to happen because you see what happened to Mrs. Clinton. You see how they praised her all those years about her husband being the first black president? Well they stabbed him in the back and they’re still stabbing white people in the back because 90% of the Democratic party in the black population, which I grew up in, and I’m not a racist… that I grew up in they want to tag the white people, all white people as racists, so the Republicans are never going to get to vote for ‘em.

1. No support for Mr. Steele because he’s black. He doesn’t have anything against black people–That’s a moronic statement, the caller contradicted themselves twice.

2. RINOs is a made up term that means not supporting the ideals of the conservative party.

3. He complains about money-How do people get elected? Mr.Steele copied from the Obama playbook to start getting smaller donations from people.

4.Not getting the black vote: “it’s never going to happen”–He then uses the example of the Clintons. Now blacks are stabbing whites continually, how can this be? We (blacks) make up such a small number of the nation’s wealth. Who exactly are blacks stabbing? Blacks vote however they want, Republican, Democrat, Moderate and so on. We can’t be put into a certain category.

What is Affirmative Action

This policy takes factors such as race, color, religion, sex or national origin to help counter the effects of a history of discrimination. Affirmative Action seeks to correct the wrongs for non-representation of women, and minorities in areas of employment, education, and business. This is a clear case of propaganda. When you hear about “AA” it’s always used in reference to minorities, blacks, not minorities as a whole. Never do you hear white women mentioned. I wonder why?

Final Thought

I’ve always loved the Bob Marley album Survival, especially the song “War”. It is single-handedly one of the greatest songs ever written and this lyric  I have always replayed:

That until there are no longer first class
And second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man’s skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes
Me say war

I believe “AA” should be done away with. I don’t base my thought on that it diminishes the accomplishments of women or minorities or that it breeds resentment within certain groups or that it makes people lazy only waiting on preferential treatment. “AA” is such an over propragrandized issue. With that said companies should want to have diversity within the work place. It makes a business better as well as more profitable. Companies that discriminate should be penalized heavily and the management within the company on up the ladder should face jail time. I’m sure that would help to keep the atmosphere and playing field beneficial to well qualified applicants.

Until Marley’s passionate lyrics ring out “AA” must remain. I don’t believe in the lowering of test scores for college admissions or lowering the bar for jobs either. I like people, especially people of various back grounds and races. Diversity is God’s plan for our world, planet. I believe in the free market, we must take a look at how that has worked. I’m tired of rich white men who say “I pulled my self up by the boot straps or I’m a self-made man”. No you’re not!  You received government contracts that helped you become a multi-millionaire or billionaire. You, sir, have benefited from corporate welfare. I support diversity within the workplace not entitlements. Industry should always have checks and balances, that’s for all people not one particular race, creed, or national origin.
