My how time flies, didn’t we already deal with this issue of the handle bar mustache pastor and the burning of the Koran. What happened to a little thing about your word being your bond. I guess it doesn’t apply to Terry Jones, a person who is supposed to hold true to the holy script.

The question should be, what was his motive? Why did he change his mind ? What did he hope to accomplish in burning the Koran? Maybe Pastor Jones is a genius, maybe he has exposed Islam.

What I’m most bothered by, is why is this a big deal; the burning of this book?

The first time he received media attention he declined to burn the Koran citing  that it might increase the threat to U.S. troops serving in Afghanistan. This time around he had to self- broadcast the burning but news of it still reached people who wanted to exploit it. Imams in Afghanistan criticized the burning.  Hamid Karzai, the U.S. backed President drew attention to it as well. Afterall it makes him look good; gives him credibility with his people. The Taliban used the burning to wage war, giving them a reason to attack the West.

 The Consequences

  • Mob attacks on the United Nations, dozens of innocent people were killed and wounded
  • Burned effigies of President Obama and Pastor Terry Jones
  • Three UN staff members and four Nepalese guards killed, 81 wounded and one beheaded

Does Terry Jones really hate or is this simply how religions who believe they have the truth behave.

Terry Jones, feels no responsibility, his beliefs are more important, even at the expense of the soldiers. In the aftermath he’s had to answer t0 many critics.

“We reject Mr. Bill O’Reilly’s statement. The responsibility should be laid upon the people who committed the acts,” he said in a statement to the New York Daily News.”The recent events are an example of the violent nature of Islam. Just because a book was burned, they used this as an excuse to retaliate. We should not in any way condone their actions,” Jones said.

Jones’ five-hour mock trial and burning of the sacred text touched off an eruption of anti-American sentiment already inflamed by recent civilian casualties in war-torn Afghanistan.

Associate Pastor Wayne Sapp, 42, claimed his actions did not display a reckless disregard for human life.”I myself I have no regrets,” he told the New York Daily News. “We’re not running into the U.N. and dragging people out and shooting and beheading. We held a peaceful demonstration inside our own facility. We set a book on fire that we purchased. Everything we did was peaceful.”

In the end Pastor Terry Jones has to answer to God and himself. Burning books is not an criminal act. We understand that we are dealing with irrational people and the act of burning A BOOK should not be protested. In a way Jones showed  that maybe Islam isn’t tolerant. Shouldn’t Christians, Jews be outraged when Muslims burn Christians, churches, bibles?  Shouldn’t Jews be outraged when suicide bombers bomb local markets full of people?
