Music plays a much larger part in our lives than what meets the eye. I was listening to some “old school” Rod Stewart back when he was actually writing tunes. In the Killing of Georgie Parts 1 and 2, he speaks of a young man(check out the video to the right) who once was an outcast but moved to where he was accepted for his life style. The song ends with Georgie being rolled on by a gang and stabbed to death.
In current news, presidential wanna be and all around loon Michele Bachmann signed a pledge outlawing just about everything: gay marriage, homosexuality as learned behavior, etc. Before I continue I have to admit that I read the pledge and I agree with some parts but differed with others. This pledge would be perfect in lets say a church, synagogue, or mosque but not in the political realm. Bachmann you are a politician not a preacher; stop trying to legislate morality because you can’t. You work for the people supposedly, you’re suppose to serve the people supposedly. The Constitution that you hold to so dearly try reading it, rereading it 70 x 70 x 70.
I personally don’t agree with the lifestyle, but if I’m in a church setting I can’t disagree with the message. The problem, you miss opportunities to be a witness. Let’s use Pavlov’s Theory of Conditioning: If you kick a hog in the head every time you feed it, sooner or later its going to not show up again. If you keep maligning and degrading gays, you turn them further away. Isn’t it interesting how she don’t mention her gay step- sister, is she embarrassed of her?
Michele Bachmann’s doctor husband who practices a curing technique sounds quite effeminate himself, just saying. The first time I heard him speak, well, couldn’t you tell. People who are so fixated on others I have to wonder about them, what secrets are being hidden? Repubs have had quite a record of that as of late. Sorry Michele I can’t take my cues from you. See how we can get caught over silliness. First, I can say I don’t like your doctrine and prove it through scripture that you are teaching a deviant gospel. I thought this was supposed to be a nation of laws. We really aren’t. I thought we had freedoms to simply be. I thought we didn’t want a monarchy or a King. But how the Repubs act as if they are Kings. They want to control your life as they see fit. Don’t misunderstand this, both sides are the same both want to control or manipulate you as they see fit.
It’s time government get out of our lives and leave us to our devices. I would love a perfect utopia but when people meddle it destroys what the country stands for. I’m not against people who disagree with the gay life style. I do believe it’s a choice and as a straight male I could choose whichever I wanted. I simply chose the hetero lifestyle. I believe it’s the perfect design.
I remember listening to a pastor who taught a message that anything we look at long enough gets bigger. He was once a homosexual that believed straight people were weird. He became dependent on drugs, alcohol and tried several times to take his life until he submitted himself to God’s will. Today he’s married with children.
There’s a saying “you don’t judge a man until you’ve walk a mile in his shoes”. We like to pick at people but do we know these people. Have we found out why or what they’re going through? It’s easy to look at the exterior and judge.
I’m reminded of a guy I grew up with that passed away from AIDS. I met him when I was around the age of 7 or 8; we played basketball together. He was a huge trash talker but I also noticed something odd about him. I never judged him when he revealed that he was gay. He had an internal struggle with identity; he even had a child. That still didn’t help him to find out who he was. The last time I saw him he was going through the post-op process. I saw him at a store one night with a bunch of friends. He glanced over, “Hey John John.” I spoke and smiled, thinking to myself, same old dude. I haven’t thought about him until this day. Imagine if he had someone to speak to him and not at him, he could possibly be here today.
Until we look at ourselves and act as vehicles of truth we will continue back biting. Common sense and morality can’t be legislated. We aren’t all going to agree on all things but we can do it with kindness and temperance.
