Mrs. Herman Cain literally went on the record earlier this week when she spoke with Fox News’ Great Van Susteren. It was a “meet the family” kind of interview with Cain’s wife, Gloria, sitting down Barbara Walter’s style with Van Susteren; kind of in the style of the interviews Walters conducts with Oscar nominees. Except the poor woman was not up for an award but rather responding to allegation that her husband sexually harassed women. She was there to shore up Herman who vehemently denies all charges brought by all five women. I can see a misunderstanding, maybe, with one woman but with five there is something going on. Where there is smoke there is fire. But again she was there to stand by her man and in a way say that nothing better had happened or Herman you are in BIG trouble. She admitted being shocked and said, “Who are these people talking about, this isn’t Herman.” I believe her when she says that too because Cain is probably one person when he is at home and was another when he was head of the National Restaurant Association(NRA) and even out on the campaign trail.

During his years as leader of the NRA, Cain lived alone in Washington, while his wife stayed in Omaha and some news accounts paint him as eager to hang out after work with staffers, late into the night even; which can be a recipe for disaster. I think it’s entirely possible when you are that far away from home(and no one really knows you)that you can get into some trouble if you don’t have a strong resolve. Cain admitted that he hated to eat alone and on its own him hanging out with staffers may have been purely innocent but it’s not the best light considering the allegations he faces. We know this much, he did something inappropriate because two former NRA women employees were paid settlements after complaining about him.

The controversy seems to be dying down due in part to the scandal at Penn State but it could all be breaking news again should the two victims who were paid settlements get together and hold a news conference. You know Cain is on his best behavior at home; watching and waiting and keeping his fingers crossed that the news media forgets all about it. Gloria is watching and waiting too.
