Newt Gingrich is an idiot, he’s an elder statesman like I’m a supermodel. He’s surging in the polls but he can’t keep his foot out of his mouth. Some recent examples:

Told Occupy Wall Street Protesters to take a bath, get a job and stop whining…

“All the Occupy movement starts with the premise that we owe them everything,” Gingrich said. “They take over a public park they didn’t pay for, to go nearby to use bathrooms they didn’t pay for, to beg for food from places they don’t want to pay for, to obstruct those who are going to work to pay the taxes to sustain the bathrooms and to sustain the park, so they can self-righteously explain they are the paragons of virtue to which we owe everything.”

Wow…first of all Newt, if it’s a public park then their tax dollars helped to pay for it. Everyone pays taxes! Forget that tired Republican talking point about people not paying income taxes. My city tax bill breaks down exactly where my tax dollars go and some it goes for public spaces that I may never, ever use. I’m sure it’s the same in New York City and other cities that are being occupied.

Advocates changing child labor laws for the worse…

It’s time, he said, to relax our “truly stupid” child labor laws. In particular, schools should fire their unionized janitors, and hire children as young as nine to do the work instead. HUH!

“You say to somebody, you shouldn’t go to work before you’re what, 14, 16 years of age, fine,” Mr. Gingrich said. “You’re totally poor. You’re in a school that is failing with a teacher that is failing. I’ve tried for years to have a very simple model. Most of these schools ought to get rid of the unionized janitors, have one master janitor and pay local students to take care of the school. The kids would actually do work, they would have cash, they would have pride in the schools, they’d begin the process of rising.”

There is soooo much wrong with this statement, where to begin? If your school and teacher are failing, what is cleaning up the bathrooms or the halls(or the classroom for that matter) going to do to fix it? This sounds like a plan that heaps more troubles onto already poor people. I’m all for pride in self and hard work but surely there are other ways to inject it into schools in poor neighborhoods. When will they go to class Newt? Just what a poor kid needs; to be stigmatized. Besides, janitors are not one-dimensional and only do cleaning, they do building maintenance and other jobs that require a skill level. He’s always got some suggestion that sounds good to the ears but really can’t be carried out.

So since Newt is so good at telling folks what they should do, I’d like to suggest he do a few things:

  • Stop saying you were a historian and admit you were a lobbyist for Freddie Mac
  • Stop talking about the Contract with America like it was a good thing
  • Start writing your own books, completely(you’re a historian, right?)
  • Keep the blonde that’s on your arm, you’re done upgrading
  • STOP running for president, you’re not fit to lead, too much baggage

Americans are quick to forgive and forget but this is not something that Newt deserves. If elected he would abandon his cause celebre of Winning the Future and Real Change like he did his first two wives.
