He Got Welfare Too

Juan Williams of Fox News and formerly of National Public Radio(NPR) was assigned to ask Newton Leroy Gingrich about his offensive statements about welfare and food stamps at Monday night’s Fox News/Wall Street Journal Debate. You know those comments about how black folk need to be learn how to work for paychecks and stop looking for handouts. He asked Newt if he thought those comment might be offensive to all people, especially African-Americans.

“No, I don’t see that,” said Gingrich.

Oh really Newt! I’m about sick of you picking on poor people and using black people as punching bags. Newt ever the jerk was unrepentant though and went on to tout how when his daughter was younger she worked at a church cleaning up and how much she enjoyed making her own money. He proposed a janitorial program that would allow students to do light janitorial work while continuing their studies, paying them and teaching them the value of work. He said that they would be earning money, “which is a good thing if you’re poor. Only the elites despise earning money.”

Juan pushed back saying Newt’s comments were meant to belittle racial minorities and the CROWD CHEERED and STOOD…for Newt! Thank you Hicktown, South Carolina for verifying that you really believe in stereotypes to the point of thinking that black people don’t work but just sit around and wait on the 1st of the month.

There are lots of poor folks that go to work everyday, they don’t sit around waiting for a handout from the man you anointed the Food Stamp President. They work Newt!

A larger issue is stagnant wages where people don’t make enough money to feed themselves much less their families but there are times in life when we all need help and the program for many is a hand-up not a hand-out. As James Carville once said, “If you work, you should not be poor.” Don’t get me wrong I don’t think this support should be life-long but I’m for helping those who need assistance and if that is in the form of food stamps or the more correct term Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program(SNAP) then so be it.  I know Newt has dreams of kicking the door down of some poor family trying to feed their children on SNAP benefits and admonishing them on getting a janitor  job with a payrate that would still leave them needing SNAP benefits.

Guess who else got  themselves some welfare? Newt!  Oh sure they were signed with prestigious names such as Freddie Mac but he was on the government’s teet to a much higher degree than a bunch of poor folks. In the 1990s he got into trouble for using his political action committees to fund his own personal and partisan interests which is illegal. He agreed to pay a $300,000 fine for misleading the House Ethics Committee during the investigation of his misuse of tax-exempt donations and in the process dodged conviction on the actual charges. Loser!

The Gingrich women even got in on the welfare. Mrs. Gingrich 2.0 landed herself  a cushy job with Israel Export Development Company after Newt announced his support for a free trade zone in Israel. She was paid $2,500 a month plus commissions to find tenants for the trade zone. Can you say conflict of interest.  Mrs. Gingrich 3.0(new and improved and plastic) worked for the  House Agriculture Committee which was heavily lobbied by Tiffany’s. Coincidently Newt and she had about half a million dollars worth of debt with no interest charged at Tiffany’s. Who runs up that much debt on jewels unless you are a rock star? Newt was called out on it when he first hit the campaign trail but word is he has to buy her jewelry to placate her because she really doesn’t want him to run for president.

Newt’s presidential campaign has not had an easy time in the last month or so but that has not stopped him from being an ass. It makes sense now that he prompted a government shutdown in 1995 due to his perception that President Clinton gave him the cold shoulder on an Air Force One flight. Is this really the guy America wants to do its bidding? He’s too self-absorbed and selfish. Loser!
