Race is still the polarizing topic of our time. It’s an issue I still struggle with though not for the reason you may think. I believe in the Messianic Messiah and what he represented. Is any race better than another? If you answered yes; then you’re already lost? I grew up in a separatist household because my parents grew up during the Jim Crow era, a different time: separate but equal. Life is about experiences and while my adopted parents were loving they had a certain view based on their experience. As I matured, I realized people are people. You begin to look at individuals, not races. In life people are going to dislike you no matter who you are even if you are famous or popular.
The Trayvon Martin case has once again pulled back the skin on race. Allow me to say this, George Zimmerman is of mixed descent, he’s half Hispanic and white but it’s not about a Hispanic man being labeled white. It’s about societal norms that aren’t easily recognizable. People of mixed races can go between and use what identity fits their needs. The white part of Zimmerman is the safe part of him and the Hispanic side is the dangerous side that could be a part of a Mexican gang; a side that is cited as to how can he be a racist.
It’s fine to have pride in self and the accomplishments of one’s race but when you over- exaggerate and believe your race is better or superior than another, you fall into a vain worship that is empty and soulish. It doesn’t matter if you believe in God or not. God created all the races, he didn’t create superior races. Domination will always be present within some races to foster some exaggerated foresight.
We have to get back to honesty. We have heroes of all cultures. America is great for the inventions (we) as a collective have created within the Americas. Simply take a look at some of the Black History Month category on this site and there are many, many more that aren’t mentioned. The creations by these men still affect and impact our lives to this day.
We must get back to the business of love. As I tell people, “We don’t have to like everyone but we do have to LOVE everyone.” LOVE conquers hate.
