Because Mike Huckabee said so, August 1, 2012, will now be known as “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.”

According to the former Arkansas governor’s Facebook page, Huckabee assembled quite a crowd to visit locations across the country of the conservative Christian-leaning fast-food restaurant. On Monday, Huckabee posted on Facebook: “We are closing in on 500,000 attendees for Chick fil-A Appreciation day. Are you going?”

Chick-fil-A has been in the spotlight recently for comments its president, Dan Cathy, made against same-sex marriage. “I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, ‘We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,” Cathy said in a recent interview. “Guilty as charged,” he said of his opposition to gay marriage.
