North Carolina is more than a swing state. What took place on 5-8-2012 probably helped change the President’s mind. He said he has constantly struggled with the issue of same-sex marriage, after some time he said he has evolved. I said it during the dreaded “Don’t ask, Don’t Tell” that this man wants no part of this issue, but his hand is being played. As a Bible believer we are taught about the dangers of homosexuality. I will go further, aside from being taught the dangers of homosexuality, most people believe it’s a choice and a perversion. Not simply church goers but the general population. While I don’t like polls, I have to state some poll results: people polled overwhelmingly disagree with same-sex marriage but agree with civil unions. The second statistic is 55 percent of the black electorate is against same-sex marriage while 55 percent of whites polled are for same-sex marriage. Within the black community the issue is taboo as well as frowned upon and in the black church this issue is abhorred to the point of voting for a Repub. since they are on the right side of the issue. This is dangerous, immature and also irresponsible as they are being taught to vote against their own interests. We’re fighting (for)healthcare, poverty; real issues that matter. Yet some man stands in front of you and says: vote against anything gay. What sense does that make to rational minded folk? This issue of gay marriage is so divisive that the church would rather vote in a person whom they consider a cultist that will send everyone to hell, than give a small group their constitutional rights.

The President says he’s been struggling with this issue for quite some time. It wasn’t as if he thought of it last night. Sure, I think most of it is political, how can it not be but I don’t think it’s going to hurt his reelection as some have suggested. He needs people who understand the fight to be in his corner. The Dems. have to show the world they are not weak, that they believe in God also. The Libertarians have been correct on this issue all along, they keep the fight where the fight should be. The Bible is very specific how it feels about homosexuality and this issue is a states right issue as well as a constitutional one.

This is nothing but a wedge issue to divide the country. Repubs. argue with the President’s new stance, that he’s the one dividing the country. He’s coming against traditional marriage, that he’s creating a WAR against traditional marriage. We  don’t have to like gays or approve of the lifestyle but what we can’t do is try to have it both ways so it suits only a few. I myself had to take a full look at the issue at hand and come to a conclusion. What I learned or better concluded is, I’m going to always side of the Bible but this isn’t a biblical issue, it’s a Constitutional one. It’s the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness issue that was promised. The Constitution also speaks about contracts being honored even if one party is from a different state.

To all my black brothers and sisters, it’s time we honestly look at ourselves and stop being so in the closet concerning gays. It’s time we stop being duped by the church to vote in people because of a wedge issue. During the 1800’s miscegenation laws were created so blacks couldn’t marry whites. We were considered inferior and subordinate. The same Bible that was used in the defense of slavery, you know the same bible you use, was used to prove to the superior race that God was on their side. Of course this is twisted knowledge but one has to think, the Bible is still being used incorrectly to enslave people. The church has every right to assemble and protest and it is protected to marry whom they want without government intervention. It’s time we evolve into forward thinking individuals and move the country PAST this wedge issue.
